The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unjustified” visa bans imposed by the United States on five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official has said.

European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders including the French president charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions were placed on individuals who have been central to efforts to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to pressure US companies to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
